MASTERCLASS: LE GATEAU CHOCOLAT

To coincide with his show MUSICALS MAYHEM on Friday 20th June, LE GATEAU CHOCOLAT will hold a Gate Theatre masterclass earlier that day on Friday 20th. MASTERCLASS IN RAW CACAO – Unfiltered Chocolat, Finding your Cabaret Voice, will take place at 12 noon until 1 pm, and the event will be free to attend.

ABOUT:

“When I step on stage as ‘Le Gateau Chocolat’ I bring with me the person that I am behind the wigs and makeup and sequins, I bring my full, multi-faceted identity and all its intricate complications and correlations. Learning how to tap into this has taken me years, so I’ll share some of the ways we can interrogate our individual story and how to build that into something we can celebrate and share on stage.

In my solo show ‘Raw Cacao’, for instance, I start the show with an “encore” from a grand opera house, and then the real story plays out in an on-stage dressing room. I remove the costume, I remove the drag makeup, to reveal a portrait of the undressed artist as man, shaped by experience, made by art; intimate, inspired, human, exposed.

In this masterclass we will interrogate who we are as individuals, more than just performers playing a role, and how we might translate our lived experience into live performance. We’ll challenge form and play with ideas that help guide our audiences through personal and sometimes challenging stories. Tools that might help you bring the je ne sais quoi to your performance styles, maybe your next audition, your next gig, your writing, or even just your experience as an audience member”. – Le Gateau Chocolat.
