Gate Theatre Safe to Create Certificate and Safe to Create Code of Behaviour

Safe to Create is a collaborative programme of supports looking to transform workplace culture and practices, and to provide safe and respectful working conditions for those working in the arts and creative sectors. It is managed by Irish Theatre Institute, in partnership with the Arts Council, Screen Ireland and Minding Creative Minds, on behalf of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.

In October 2022, Safe to Create was launched, and was tasked with rolling out a collaborative programme of supports looking to transform workplace culture and practices, and to provide safe and respectful working conditions for those working in the arts and creative sectors.

In early 2023, Safe to Create launched a Code of Behaviour Training Programme, co-designed with Screen Ireland, to address dignity at work issues in the arts and creative sectors. Three core courses were made available online free-of-charge that included: Addressing Unconscious BiasTackling Bullying and Harassment at Work, and Active Bystander Training.

The Gate Theatre adopted the Safe To Create Code of Behaviour in February 2023 and remains committed to creating a safe, inclusive, respectful, workplace where artists and arts workers can thrive, free from all forms of harassment, discrimination, bullying and violence.

The full Safe to Create Code of Behaviour is below, along with the Gate’s signed Declaration of Adoption of the Safe To Create Code of Behaviour.
