Gate Theatre Climate Action Plan
The climate crisis is one of the greatest challenges of our time, and as a cultural leader in Ireland and abroad, the Gate Theatre acknowledges its responsibility to reduce its environmental impact through every avenue available to it.
In our Strategic Plan 2024-2026 titled An Open Gate, we state that one of our key strategic goals is ‘To create a sustainable organisation by advancing environmental sustainability at the Gate.’ As such, decisive and long-lasting climate action, that results in greater sustainability, is at the heart of our vision for the coming years.
The Gate’s Climate Action Plan for 2025 is co-created by its entire team and aims to balance ambition with achievability in our proposed actions for 2025, which lay the groundwork for a new statement of intent, and a comprehensive policy from 2026 onwards. Our plan is borne of our values of care, collaboration and excellence, as a collective of individuals working in the arts sector, who are navigating the effects of climate change in our own lives. As leaders in our field, we want our eventual policy to show vision and leadership for the broader sector and the future of the arts in Ireland.
